Frequently Asked Questions About Ear Candles
Q. What is Ear Candling?
A. Ear candling is a safe, simple, natural way to remove excess wax and debris from inside the ears. Long tapered candles are inserted gently into the ears, and then lit. The candle creates a slight vacuum effect, oxidizing, vaporing and drawing softened wax and debris from the ears. This is a very gentle and non- invasive process.
Q. What are Ear Candles made of?
A. They are made of 100% Pure Beeswax highly concentrated with
Propolis including anti-oxidants, anti-microbials, anti-inflammatory,
anti-bacterials and anti-viral properties. Propolis is also believed to
improve the overall immune response. They are approx. 12 inches in length and approx 5/8″ in diameter
Q. What is the History of Ear Candling?
A. The practice of ear candling dates back approximately 2,500 years to the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Tibetan and American Indian cultures. Today, it is practiced by many cultures and is taught in German medical schools.
Q. How does Ear Candling work?
A. The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be removed. They equalising pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently simulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle ‘chimney’, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after. As the candle burns, smoke moves the debris out of the ear. Osmosis (diffusion through a semi- permeable membrane, e.g., skin) plays an important role as the smoke soothes the sinus and nasal cavities. Excess earwax is moved through the ear canal into the cone.
Q. Do Ear Candles cure ear disease?
A. We do not make any claims that ear candles cure any specific disease. We recommend that you ask for and follow your doctor’s advice concerning any health problems
Q. Does Ear Candling Hurt?
A. No. Most people experience gentle warmth in the ear canal, which has a soothing, relaxing effect. There is a slight crackling sound as the candle burns.
Q. How long does a session last?
A. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes. Each candle burns for about 15 minutes in each ear.
Q. How often can Ear Candling be done?
A. As with most things, this varies with each person. Some people with excess wax need sessions for two to four weeks to clear the ears. Generally, two or three times a year is sufficient for most people.
